Ride into Fun at the Tour de Scottsdale

Tour de Scottsdale

While everyone knows about the Tour de France, not everyone can afford a trip to Europe to cycle. If that is the case, there is no reason to feel disappointed. While the Tour de France is for the elite cyclists around the world, there are plenty of other cycling outlets right here in the United States. In fact, one of the most regarded races takes place in the scenic southwest. This highly competitive event is known as the Tour de Scottsdale.

As the name suggests, this annual cycling event occurs in Scottsdale, Arizona. Although the Tour de Scottsdale got its start just over a decade ago, it is already considered to be one of the best cycling events in the country. Cyclists can pick between two courses. There is a 70 mile ride, which appeals to more seasoned competitors. For those who do not have as much experience or time, the 30 mile ride is a fantastic outlet for a broader range of people. Each trail is carefully chosen to be scenic and difficult, giving cyclists the best experience possible.

This year’s event is hosted by the DC Ranch Community Council with presentation support from Lexus. Some of the proceeds will be channeled to McDowell Sonoran Conservancy, which is a local nonprofit group that protects the wildlife in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. To honor this partnership, part of the race is designed around the Preserve, which is a great way for cyclists and other guests to see the importance of this natural wonder.

The ride has limited registration with only 2000 slots available. Requirements for registration are fairly general, and cyclists can participate with a range of bikes. This includes mountain bikes and recumbent bikes. As long as the bike is safe to ride in larger groups, it will probably be approved by event coordinators. This means that aero-type handlebars are not allowed due to safety concerns for other cyclists on the route.

As an added bonus, participants can look forward to a unique virtual goody bag. This goody bag is made available to participants via registration before the start of the competition. The email will contain information to make the experience even better. The goody bag will include everything from exclusive offers to handy coupons.

For those who are not planning on riding, there is still plenty to do at this year’s Tour de Scottsdale. To cheer on a favorite rider, there is now live athlete tracking available. This tracking can let friends and family know where a participant is at with mobile updates during the race. Guests are encouraged to watch at strategic points along the path, especially at the starting line in DC Ranch. With all this, it is easy to see why the Tour de Scottsdale has quickly become one of the most anticipated races in the region.

Although cycling is the main attraction, there are other opportunities for adventure and leisure throughout the city. Scottsdale is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Arizona, and it has a range of historical sites, cultural attractions and recreational opportunities.
